Installation of the SprinterRail™ Base (160mm)

Read the full instructions before starting. Follow these steps to install your Mercedes Benz Sprinter 160mm wide base. Allow 15-20 minutes.

Step 1 - Dry Fit the Base Location on the Sprinter Dash

The dash base can be positioned on the driver side, passenger side or in the middle of the dash. It is down to personal preference.

Move the base to determine what is best for you and how you want to use the base and position your device holders.

Step 2 - Position the metal base, mark the holes.

Do not remove the 3M Very High Bond (VHB) tape just yet!

For the next step, you could use 3M painters Blue Tape on the dash to allow you to mark the location of up to 6 holes for the supplied fasteners. The choice to use tape or mark the plastic directly is up to you.

Mark the 6 holes. There will be 3 on each side using a Sharpie should be sufficient.

Now remove the base and set that aside for the next stage.

Step 3 - Very Carefully Drill the Holes by Hand.

Very carefully and accurately drill the 6 holes with a small 2mm drill bit. If you do not have metric drills, use up to a 3/32" bit.

Use a hand drill as the plastic is very easy to penetrate and all that is required is a small and shallow starter hole for the supplied fastener.

USE EXTREME CAUTION NOT TO PENETRATE MORE THAN THE DEPTH OF THE PLASTIC DASH. USE A DRILL-STOP. IF YOU USE AN ELECTRIC DRILL YOU MIGHT DAMAGE OEM EQUIPMENT IN THE DASH. IF IN DOUBT, CONSULT A SPRINTER VAN EXPERT FOR ASSISTANCE.

Step 4 - Remove the 3M VHB Tape and Position the Base.

Remove the liner of the VHB installed on either side of the base.

Ensure there is no Armor All or other slick dash coating to allow the 3M VHB to bond to the plastic directly.

Use one of the fasteners to help you guide the base into position and position the base to be square to the front of the dash and sit firmly. Avoid repeatedly removing a repositioning the base as this will impact the effectiveness of the 3M VHB material. Best to position just once.

Step 5A - Install the Fasteners

Starting with the fastener holes closest to the windshield, very gently install the fasteners. They should progress smoothly through the pilot hole from Step 2.

Be sure not to drive the fastener in fast. Only use a hand screwdriver. Never use a powered screwdriver as this will prevent you from feeling any resistance.

If you meet any resistance, stop. If in doubt about any potential contact with equipment, consult a Sprinter van specialist for assistance.

Complete for all fasteners.

Remember, DO NOT over-tighten the fasteners. The 3M VHB will be doing almost all of the work and the fasteners are their for alignment and support. over-tightening the fasteners may simply strip the plastic dash.

Step 5B - Use Small Nuts, Washers and Bolts (not supplied)

Some owners may wish to find ways to open the dash face and use small nuts, washers and bolts instead of the supplied self-tapping fasteners. Use the holes in the base as needed.

Step 6 - Attach the carbon fiber arm(s) and holder(s)

The 3M VHB material reaches optimal bonding strength in 24 hours. We strongly recommend that owners wait for 24 hours before adding arms and holders.

Attach the 67 Designs' Carbon Fiber Series arm(s) and device holder(s) that came with your order.
